New Jersey Symphony Orchestra goes gamer in video game music show at NJPAC

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra rubbed elbows with the likes of Super Mario and Tron this week when they teamed up with veteran video game music composer Tommy Tallarico for performances of classic and modern video game music. “Video Games Live: Bonus Round,” conducted in Newark by Japanese video game composer Wataru Hokoyama, features video game imagery and live action interactivity, drawing in a decidedly different crowd from the usual concertgoers at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. You’re standing in the center of a dark room, a crowd pushing against you as you all stare up. Floating above your heads is a platform with a treadmill on it, quickly whirring as a man in a white coat runs full-tilt on it. Obstacles are swung into his path—like a plaster wall that explodes as he leaps through it—and he keeps on running. Half an hour later, you might be just inches below a sheet of glass as women swim across it, or performers slide around in what looks like milk.

She began performing in bars and cafés of Laleh-Zar St. in Tehran at the young age of five. Song: “Eshgh Yani Hame Chiz” by Googoosh Singer: Parisa Alizadeh Performed as a part of the 8th annual Performing Arts Show, a show organized by the Iranian Students’ Academic & Cultural Organization (ISACO).
